Carbon block filters are designed to filter spa fill water down to about 1 micron (drinking water) and reduce minerals and contaminants that will impede salt system bromine production.
Salt Systems are most efficient when there is low TDS, iron, and calcium content in the spa water. These will diffuse and interrupt the magnetic field that produces free bromine.
When installing a hot tub with a salt system the initial fill water TDS level, mineral and calcium content will need to be as low as possible to improve bromine production and extend the life of the water between drain and fills.
Do not fill spa with water from a water softener (salt based). Softener Salt will be sodium chloride not sodium bromide and will have many impurities and additives that can damage the electrodes and impair salt system bromine production.
Iron and calcium must be controlled with sequestering reagents and mineral inhibitors.
REMEMBER: to use sequestering reagents and mineral inhibitors that do not contain phosphates. Phosphates will also reduce the bromine production. Test spa fill water for phosphates and use a phosphate remover if needed.
We recommend the CPF100 Carbon Block Filter. It is designed to thread directly on to the garden hose and will filter up to 2000 gallons, so most users can expect 4 to 5 spa fills with one filter
