To replace a water manifold you will typically need to add in pieces of piping to allow for the section to be cut out. If you do not have the slack in the piping to make the glue joints bottom out, a leak may occur.
When gluing a manifold it is a good habit to connect the main in and out feed lines and position the manifold before gluing in the smaller discharge lines.
When the manifold has plug(s) to fill any unused ports, make sure to install the plugs first. It may be difficult to glue and install them after all the discharge lines are glued into place.
